Go somewhere new: join me for Experimonth 2010

As some of you know, I’ve decided that January’s experimonth for 2010 will be a suggestion from one of my best friends, Adam Lore, that was in second place on the voting: drive on ufamiliar roads and/or to towns you have never visited.

This means two things: I’m looking for people who want to join me, and I’m hoping for more votes to figure out what I’m going to do the next 11 months of 2010 (and hoping some of you will join me for those too).

Adam’s suggestion was really attractive to me because of the source, because it also got support from others, and for its potential implications.  I’m planning to go to Baton Rouge later this month to stay with my mom for a week or so (one of far too few visits since I graduated from high school there in ‘91) and this will give me a good excuse to check out changes and explore parts of Louisana I haven’t seen since the 80s (and explore some brand new places).  It also gives me a reason to check out lots of the smaller towns and cities that are near Durham that I’m embarrassed not to have ever been, despite having lived here since ‘95 (the longest I’ve ever lived anywhere).  Finally, it gives me a chance to really get to know my new neighborhood lots better - and I’ve already grown to love living so close to true downtown Durham.

For those of you new to this, Experimonth is a participatory experiment that redefines New Year’s resolutions. My friend Beck created it in 2009 and I’m keeping it alive in 2010. You can find out why here.  You can vote for the rest of the year’s months here until January 15th, when I’ll close the voting and announce February-December’s experimonths. Note that everyone gets 10 votes, and can give 1-3 votes per idea (including suggesting your own new idea).  Since there are 11 months left, the top 11 ideas win!
